Japanese students visit Ivanhoe

03 Mar 2010

Ivanhoe Grammar School students hosted visitors to Plenty Campus from our Japanese sister school, Shoyokan High School, on Friday 26 February. The visit was part of an annual tradition of Shoyakan students visiting Plenty for a day.

The students took part in many activities including footy clinics, drama workshops and Japanese classes with primary students. One of the highlights for the Shoyokan students was a display by Black Snake Productions which let them get up close for the very first time to some of Australia's most famous reptiles and snakes.

Ivanhoe students were very keen hosts who were eager to show their visitors around their school. Many friendships were formed throughout the day and e-mail addresses exchanged. Particular mention must be made of the Year 10 students who led their activity groups and also organised an Aussie BBQ at lunchtime for the visitors and they took on their leadership role with aplomb.

Ivanhoe's Plenty Campus has had an association with Shoyokan High School since it was first opened twenty years ago and a bond has formed between the two schools. The exchange of cultures and ideas and the enthusiasm of the students truly made the Shoyokan visit a great success.
