More Kayaking Success!

23 Jan 2012

Twenty nine Ivanhoe Grammar School kayakers from all three campuses spent the second week of 2012 at the Australian Schools Whitewater Championships (2011) in Tasmania on the Forth River.

Competing against over 40 Schools from all over Australia, Ivanhoe Kayakers continued to excel and once again proved it is the team work that makes the difference to winning:

Overall Champion School Award

Winning Boys School Trophy

Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in retaining the Winning Girls School Trophy and congratulations must go to The Friends School from Tasmania.

Maggie Webster won the Senior Female Championship Award, this was a great effort.

Ivanhoe Grammar School can be proud of the way our students conducted themselves. All our paddlers supported and encouraged each other on and off the water. In total Ivanhoe Grammar School had 75 Team Members - the largest contingent of paddlers and supports from any one school which was an amazing effort.

The Organisers would like to thank the students and parents who assisted in judging, compiling, start/finish and generally running around to ensure the event ran smoothly.

On behalf of the Ivanhoe Grammar School Kayak Parent Support Group, I would like to thank the School and in particular our Principal, Rod Fraser for their continued support of Kayaking. Thanks also to David Gibbs for his organisation prior to the event and to Peter Hogg for coming to Tasmania and all his hard work during the event.

Also thank you to Jack Currie and Alan Robinson for leading the team during 2011 and for their assistance during the Nationals.

Congratulations and thanks to all our paddlers and their families, I hope you had as much fun as I did!
